Ransomware Hits Major Websites via Advertising Networks

All those websites that yell at you if you have an ad-blocker in place, are putting you at risk.

The New York Times, The BBC, MSN, NFL.com, Newsweek.com, Realtor.com, and a few others have been infecting users via ads that they serve.

Ransomeware is one of the WORST things that can befall you. And these big-name sites are spreading without even thinking about security.

How? Because they are selling ad space, to people that they don’t know – and don’t care to know.

Spider Labs, has determined that Angler is being spread by all the sites above and then some. Through their ADVERTISING. If you want to avoid this, add the uBlock Origin ad-blocker to your browser.

For this, and more good news, see this week’s episode of Security Now. The relevant portion of the podcast is at 61 minutes in.
