Democracy? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Democracy

Why bother with democracy when authoritarianism is so much more efficient. US govt quietly tweaks rules to let cops, Feds hack computers anywhere, anytime

Congress? Democracy? No need for that

Just go read it. The powers that be are busy granting themselves new powers.

  1. The story of the last …?… years. 8 for sure, but I don’t know how far back it goes.

As far as major changes to existing laws goes, never mind having elected representatives debate it and write it. Just let some petty bureaucrat write it. Was it Clinton’s chief of staff who said, “Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Pretty cool.” – although that was about executive orders.

    • Echelon was started under Bush the Senior, and deployed under Clinton. (There are editorials from the NYTimes about how spying on citizens is for our own good and required.) Then with 9/11 Bush and the then Congress critters went wild with the Patriot Act. (What a name, as if believing in the safeguards of the Bill of Rights meant you were not patriotic.) And now we have Obama who seems to be pushing the whole thing over the cliff.

Who was it that lied to the American people and Congress before Snowden showed him up for the liar he was. One of the chiefs of intelligence testified before Congress that they were NOT spying on US citizens. Which they were, which lie pushed Snowden into his act of defiance.

  2. That was our current DNI, James Clapper. I think he said something like he told “the least untruthful answer he could” or some DC-crap like that.

The “USA Patriot” act embodies another truth of DC watching. Never trust any law that has a name that’s an acronym. ” Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act”.
