First they destroyed the economy. Now they are taking over the media, and using the government – in the form of police raids – to attack anyone who doesn’t do exactly what their betters tell them to do. They will be following the lead of Venezuela in no time and instituting forced labor.
First we have the police raids. Raid on office of central banker’s wife raises concerns in Greece. The central-banker-in-question has clashed with Syriza government on many issues relating to the Greek economy.
Mr Stournaras has clashed frequently over issues of bank governance with the leftwing Syriza-led government of Alexis Tsipras, the prime minister. Hours before the raid on Mindwork, the central bank rejected the appointment of a new chairman and chief executive at Attica Bank, a struggling small lender with close ties to the ruling party. It also banned new lending by Attica until their replacements were named.
Almost like using the IRS to silence conservative groups in this country.
Then there is the question of controlling the media. European Federation of Journalists Concerned About Media Pluralism in Greece. The government is limiting – for no good reason – the number of private TV broadcasters in the country to 4. There are currently 8 broadcasters and 4 will have to close. (Apparently they were too “independent.”)
“Early this year, the Greek government has passed a law to allow only four TV licences to issue to private broadcasters. The European Commission expressed serious concerns about media independence in the country. On August 30, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s government launched the auctions claiming that it would crack down on corruption in the media sector and enable better regulation,” the EFJ announcement said.
In other words, he was tired of having to deal with the media saying things he didn’t like.
We don’t have to worry about that right now because the media in this country are completely in the control of the Democrats. Except Fox which is the control of the Republicans. Independent media? That is SO 20th Century!
