Chicago Starts the Year with 52 Killed in January (So far)

Hey Jackass Stats Not a good omen for the rest of the year. At least 50 killed, 300 wounded in Chicago shootings so far in January, CPD says | abc7chicago.com. (Click the image for the full stats via Hey Jackass.)

So far in 2017, reports said at least 52 people have been murdered and about 300 people were shot. That’s slightly higher than in the same period last year. Guglielmi said Tuesday that 50 people had been murdered so far this year.

It being Chicago they have to talk about guns. They mention gun arrests are up over last year, but I would take bets that the folks arrested don’t stay in jail long. Even though illegal possession of a gun is a federal offense that carries years (or decades) of prison time. They won’t be charged under federal law.
