Wisconsin – Still Drinking Heavily After All These Years

The things you find scouring the intertubes for news… Here are the drunkest cities in American and most are in Wisconsin

I really wanted to use a reference to “The beer that made Milwaukee famous,” but I’m not sure how many people would recognize Schlitz Beer, let alone their advertising campaign from the 1970s.

Green Bay holds the #1 position on this list. 26.5 percent of people drink excessively. Half of traffic deaths are alcohol-related.

Here is the rest of the top drunkest cities (the number indicates the percentage of adults who drink to excess):
2. Eau Claire, Wis. (26.2-percent)
3. Appleton, Wis. (26.2-percent)
4. Madison, Wis. (25.9-percent)
5. Fargo, North Dakota-Minn. (25.2-percent)
6. Oshkosh-Neenah, Wis. (24.5-percent)
7. Missoula, Mont. (24.3-percent)
8. Grand Forks, ND (24.2-percent)
9. Wausau, Wis. (24.2-percent)
10. La Crosse-Onalaska, Wis. (23.8-percent)
11. Mankato, Minn. (23.6-percent)
12. Fond du Lac, Wis. (23.5-percent)
13. Iowa City, Iowa (23.1-percent)
14. Dubuque, Iowa (23.0-percent)
15. Sheboygan, Wis. (23.0-percent)
16. Watertown-Fort Drum, NY (22.9-percent)
17. Lincoln, Neb. (22.7-percent)
18. Fairbanks, Ala. (22.7-percent)
19. Ames, Iowa (22.7-percent)
20. Milwaukee, Wis. (22.5-percent)

Strangely enough, a large number of those cities are home to universities. Not all, as far as I know.

They also have the driest cities in America, if you’re interested.
