Cop fired for arresting a man for dating-his-daughter while black. (And you thought driving-while-black was a big deal.) ‘We’ll make some s*** up’: Cop is fired after pulling over and detaining his daughter’s boyfriend while she was in the car, tracking her down using police computers and IGNORING a call to rush to an accident. (The FOP is involved but I’m sure his side of the story will be something like “No racism to see here. Move along.”)
This is such a stereotypical abuse of power, it’s hard to know where to start.
He arrested his daughter’s boyfriend – his 18-year-old daughter that is – for no reason. Threatened to “make shit up” and arrest him for it. Threatened to have his daughter committed for a suicide watch. And in case you are wondering, the cop and his daughter are white, and the boyfriend isn’t. But I’m sure that doesn’t have anything to do with anything. (That seems to be the position of the FOP anyway.)
Oh, and while he was settling his domestic issues – on dashcam – he ignored actual police work that his department wanted him to take care of. But being fired for not doing your job, or abuse of authority? He’s in a union!
Police Chief Cel Rivera said Kovach’s actions were ‘an abuse of police authority and a serious departure from appropriate protocol…they are contrary to the mission, values and policies of the Lorain Police Department,’ according to the Chronicle.
Safety-Service Director Dan Given said the incident has been referred to County Prosecutor Dennis Will for review.
The FOP? They are waiting on the results of arbitration in September.
They say the city violated Kovach’s contractual rights by firing him.
Because nothing is more important the protecting a cop who clearly is over the edge, on camera no less, because unions. And the Brotherhood of Whatever. Or something. (Oh, and there is video of the incident at the link above. And on YouTube)
