Чистка партийных рядов (Cleansing of the party ranks – 21st Century Edition)

The more things change, the more they stay the same. ‘Not surprising!’ Former Hillary aide calls for a ‘sellout list’ of progressives who don’t toe the Party line.

The former spokesman for Hillary Clinton suggested the creation of an enemies list of sellout progressives to ban from “future Democratic administrations.”

Brian Fallon tweeted about his belief that progressives should break up “the gross, backscratching, legal ecosystem where Ivy League corporate lawyers” on both sides of the political aisle help each other climb the ladder.

While I was tempted to use a quote from the original Star Trek series as the title to this post, a phrase from Stalinist Russia seemed more to the point.

Purges of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union (“Чистка партийных рядов”, chistka partiynykh ryadov, “cleansing of the party ranks”) were a Soviet ritual in which periodic reviews of members of the Communist Party were conducted to get rid of “undesirables”.[1]

Can’t afford to let any counter-revolutionaries get a toe hold in the party.

Now I’m willing to admit that the reference to Stalin’s USSR is overblown, but it did jump to the front of my mind on its own.

Among the other notable people who had enemies lists, there is another that jumps to the front of the line: Richard Nixon. I’m sure that Brian Fallon didn’t mean to follow in his footsteps either. (Hat tip Shifra at Tammy Bruce’s place.)
