Self-defense is Legal in Texas

JusticeBut then I always suspected that it was. (Then again, this is the county that includes Austin.) Travis Co. DA says deadly Elgin shooting was in self-defense.

[Travis County DA Margaret] Moore said in a statement released Wednesday that 48-year-old Thomas Hardin and a relative of his had gone to a neighbor’s home after a prior disagreement earlier that evening. Hardin was armed with a handgun, and the two neighbors exchanged gunfire.

It isn’t clear really what the disagreement was about, but it probably wasn’t worth losing his life over.

But the DA declined to file charges, because self-defense is your legal right in Texas. And she made that determination in pretty good time, considering Austin.
