The Vatican’s Minecraft Server Gets Hacked

I bet you didn’t know the Vatican had a Minecraft server. Priest creates Vatican Minecraft server that’s quickly sabotaged. Actually it is still in testing, but it got hacked anyway.

Father Robert Ballecer, a software developer from the Silicon Valley, currently assigned to the Vatican, created the gaming server in order to have a version of the Minecraft environment that is “less toxic.” But we can’t have that!

He explained in a tweet that a “handful” of players conspired to “kill the server.”

“I’m looking at the logs of the Minecraft test server and it looks like there is a handful of people who are constantly connecting and disconnecting to fill the player slots and kill the server,” he wrote.

The reason he created the server?

“It’s not about technology. It’s not even about the gaming, it’s about getting people together, who can then maybe move those relationships to the real world,” Ballecer told the outlet.

Father Robert still shows up (occasionally) on Twit.TV (This Week in Tech TV). Formerly he was a regular host of several shows. His most recent video is a review of a smart biking helmet for Hands On Tech.
