Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Contines

Since this mess is, in part, due to the inept Obama Administration, the media doesn’t seem to care. A Bloody Week on Ukraine’s Front Lines Catches Washington’s Attention.

So. Russian-backed forces (no one believes the, “It’s not our fault” protestations of Moscow) have started killing medics. A violation of international law isn’t of interest to the media.

Combined Russian-separatist forces — operating under Moscow’s command — have continued their daily drumbeat of shelling Ukrainian troops and towns in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, where Ukraine and Russia have been fighting a low-intensity land war since the spring of 2014. There’s been a steady trickle of combat deaths in the Donbas for more than six years. And Europe’s only ongoing war often falls from the headlines. But the killing of a Ukrainian medic on Monday spurred notably incensed reactions from both Kyiv and Washington.

And it shows no signs of being resolved.

On Tuesday, seven more Ukrainian soldiers were wounded during another day of heavy fighting. The Ukrainian military reported that combined Russian-separatist forces attacked their positions with Soviet-era anti-tank missile systems, mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms.

  1. This disaster began in 2014 when the US staged a coup d’etat to overthrow Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych. Yanukovych’s offense was that he preferred a trade agreement with Russia over one with the EU. Russia gave Ukraine better terms. It might be noted that in the 2014 runoff election, he won from over 60% to over 90% of the popular vote in every oblast east of the Dneipr plus Crimea. Iulia Timoshenko did the same west of the Dneipr. The Dneipr is the boundary between the industrialized, Orthodox, and Russian east, and the agricultural, Catholic and Polish/Lithuanian west.

The US has also used its influence among Ukrainian Nazis to prevent implementation of the Minsk agreement, which Poroshenko signed and later repudiated under US/ Ukronazi pressure. The current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, also ran on a platform to negotiate and end to the civil war, and the US/Ukronazis prevented that, too. It might be noted that the Ukronazi parties lost heavily in that election, but they are controlled by various oligarchs who would lose power and wealth if the civil war ended.

You might also remember we overthrew the Gaddafi regime in Libya, which sank that country, too, into an interminable civil war.

Wherever the US goes, it brings death and destruction.
