A failure of the victim selection process. 1 of 4 burglars shot by Cullman County homeowner, sheriff says.
Four miscreants thought it would be a good idea to break into an occupied dwelling. They were confronted by the homeowner.
There was an exchange of gunfire with one suspect getting hit, the sheriff said.
Deputies and Hanceville police officers responded to the scene. Three of the intruders – including the wounded suspect – were taken into custody. A fourth fled the scene but was later captured.
Three have been charged with various things; the fourth guy is still in the hospital and will be charged when he’s released from doctors’ care.
The sheriff, Matt Gentry, has a good attitude about self-defense.
“This is a great example of citizens utilizing their second amendment rights and protecting themselves and their family. I have often stated that law enforcement can be minutes away when you only have seconds to defend yourself and your family,” Gentry said.
