I’m shocked – Shocked! – to discover that politicians would lie. REPORT: Minneapolis Plan To Defund The Police Collapses, City Council Members ‘Regret’ Making Pledge. OK, I’m not actually shocked.
So they promised to disband the police department and “end policing as we know it.” Didn’t quite work out that way.
Some of the Minneapolis City Council members who pledged to abolish the city’s law enforcement — including the City Council president — now say they regret making that promise. [SNIP]
“Councilor Andrew Johnson, one of the nine members who supported the pledge in June, said in an interview that he meant the words ‘in spirit,’ not by the letter,” according to the NY Times.
Which is weasel-wording even by the standards, so called, of your average politician, and it brought to mind the following quote.

And they are shocked that safety is a disappearing commodity in Minneapolis. Minneapolis continues to contend with unprecedented gun violence amid policing debate
There’s a crime wave. Quick, send in the social distancing, social workers! Yeah, that should work.
Or maybe they weren’t lying; maybe they are just idiots.
