While they have a long way to go to have the kinds of problems Chicago deals with, they do seem to have a growing problem. Three more Copenhagen shootings Thursday night: reports – The Local
A power struggle between an organised crime gang known as ‘Loyal to Familia’ and another group located in the Mjølnerparken and Nørrebro neighbourhoods is reported to be the cause of the persistent shooting incidents.
No fatalities have been reported from any of the shootings.
Loyal to Familia is the up-and-coming gang in Copenhagen. (Note: That link is in Danish, if you open it in Chrome it should offer to translate it for you, otherwise run it through either the Bing or Google translator. They are doing a much better job these days.) Considering LTF was only founded in 2012, they seem to be making a name for themselves.
What really caught my eye on this story was a related article. Copenhagen Police extend stop-and-search zone – The Local. The cops aren’t waiting for things to get out of hand.
The ordinances (called visitationszoner in Danish) allow police to stop anyone within a predetermined area and search them for weapons without having probable cause.
They are extending both the time-frame originally envisioned and the area in question. Because keeping order is what the state is for.
All this in a city of about 800,000 people that has seen only 23 shootings (no fatalities) this year. Remind me, what is going on in Chicago?
