Grace Slick Singing “White Rabbit”

A bonus musical interlude courtesy of Wirecutter – Well, this is kinda freaky.

Click thru for Grace Slick singing the Jefferson Airplane song “White Rabbit” with all the instruments removed. All you get is her powerful voice.

The full version, with drums, guitar, and bass can be found at this link.

White Rabbit

I featured a Craig Chaquico song a while back. That got me thinking about Jefferson Starship, which got me thinking about Jefferson Airplane.

This is “White Rabbit” from the 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane. This song was recorded just as Grace Slick was invited to join the group. (The previous female lead had departed.) “White Rabbit” had been a preformed by Slick when she was member of The Great Society.

YouTube asked me sign in “because this video may not be suitable for younger viewers” when I first started looking for this song. (Though it may have been a different version…) Which is strange, because this song was on the radio back in the day – reaching number 8 on the billboard charts. Which confirms my suspicion that the 21st Century is completely insane. The lyrics – taken from both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass include “One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small, and the ones that Mother gives you don’t do anything at all.” Which I guess is over the top for this War on (Some) Drugs™ era. (They 86ed Underdog because his “super energy pill” was a substance abuse issue.) Anyway, enjoy the music.
