It isn’t enough that the inflators will explode. Now software will keep the bags from deploying in a crash. GM recalls 4.3 million vehicles over air bag-related defect

General Motors Co said on Friday it will recall nearly 4.3 million vehicles worldwide due to a software defect that can prevent air bags from deploying during a crash, a flaw already linked to one death and three injuries.

No word on whether or not this is vulnerable to hacking. (Want to guess?)

Taxpayers take a $10.5-billion loss on the bailout of the automaker.

It wasn’t a bailout of the automaker – it was a bailout of the union. The UAW (and maybe some associated folks) are the only ones who came out ahead in that deal. In a real bankruptcy – what we should have seen – the contracts would have been up for review. Couldn’t have that.
