The Tea Party Making Itself Ridiculous

There are idiots in every movement, but the Tea Party has stopped being about taxes and morphed into the religious right. Tea Party Activist Upset that Atheists, Wiccans, Muslims Allowed in US (Video).

I’m not sure that is even fair, since I some of the people on the religious right are in FAVOR of freedom of religion. The woman profiled in the linked article – spokeswoman of the Tea Party News Network – was apparently upset that freedom of religion meant that non-Christians were allowed in the US.

And of course being a member of the religious right, she has to take a swipe at abortion. Which at last count didn’t count as a tax-related issue in anybody’s lexicon.

Now I have no idea who this person is, so whether she actually represents the feelings of the majority of Tea Party members or not, who can say. But if the Tea Party is really about taxes, they should stick to that issue. Otherwise they should change their name to the “far right religious Christian party.” It would be more honest.
